soak them overnight in water/dishsoap[liquid] the next day use a soft tothbrush and wash them in a bowl on the counter. if you was them in the sink I guarantee you will drop one down the drain. Rinse them in warm water using a colander or sieve. Do not do this to opals. Just rinse them in clean water and use the toothbrush…..over a colander..and store them in mineral oil.
or
a mild ammonia solution for stones..except opals again…brush, rinse repeat.
What’s with the opals? they are porous and will soak up soapy water and go cloudy or soak up ammonia and stink..

Cleaning of gemstones can be done using utrasonic cleaners. For cleaning jewelry that contains set gemstones, steam cleaners are a good alternative to ultrasonic cleaners, but care must still be taken. It is best to clean your gemstone jewelry with a soft, dry flannel polishing cloth.

Hello RateDr,
Answering this question correctly would depend on your telling what type of Gemstones you have in your jewelry.
There is no correct answer for all types of Gemstones.
General advice, you already got, but be careful, with Opals, Turquoise, and such!
